Last Saturday was the celebration of Buwan ng Wika or Language Month in Ykaie’s school.
The students came to school dressed in Filipiniana costume or traditional Filipino clothes. Ykaie wore a dress that is like a cross-over between Baro’t Saya and Terno.
In English the THEME is: The Filipino language is Universal, Light and Power to the Straight Path
Buwan ng Wika used to be Linggo ng Wika which is celebrated only for one week which falls around the birthday of Manuel L. Quezon, the president of the Philippine Commonwealth republic who pushed for the institutionalization of Tagalog/Filipino as the country’s national language. It falls around the week of August 19.
This is celebrated to promote the use of our national language.
Ykaie and her classmates did a presentation. They sang Filipino song with “actions”.
I am so proud that she can now memorize songs that are much longer and with actions nonetheless!
After the presentation, there were some games for the parents and their children.
I think Ykaie enjoyed her first Buwan ng Wika celebration and she got excited when her teacher announced that there will be a field trip on October. Payment for the field trip is next week, thank God for payday advances I would be able to pay full for it.
