“There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are messengers of overwhelming grief…and unspeakable love.”
Many people has often associated tears as a sign of weakness. I strongly disagree. Shedding tears is the total opposite of weakness. I see it as a sign of passion and strength. Tears come from the strongest emotion: grief, hate, love and happiness.
I cry a lot but I’m not a crybaby. I always cry when watching movies may it be romantic, drama, comedy or cartoons. Crying appears to be the body’s natural reaction so I do nothing to stop it. Besides, from personal experience, I know that when I cry it lowers my stress level immensely. I cry when I’m mad because I know that if I don’t, you’d find me beating the hell out of the person I’m mad at.
So, if I’m mad at you and I didn’t cry…then I’m probably thinking of enjoying your funeral, you know, having coffee and socializing with the people at your wake. See? I told you it’s better for me to shed tears and be the drama queen than going all morbid.
Anyway, what does crying do, really? Well, unlike men who has to deal with a negative social stigma when they cry, women on the other hand, do the best thing they can do for themselves when they cry. Yes, we end up with the most ugly eyes in the morning but we do a lot for our overall mental, emotional and physical health– we release stress.
Maybe this is the reason why when I feel stressed out, I look for movies which would give me a good cry and then I watch it over and over again until I get tired. I would feel so refreshed the morning after. I thought I was just being a masochist.LOlz.
Kidding aside, people feel better after a good cry because hormones associated with stress are released and eliminated.
Dr. William Frey, research director at HealthPartners’ Dry Eye and Tear Research Center at St. Paul-Ramsey Medical Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, believes that people who cry after traumatic events {such as death of a loved one} are less likely to suffer heart attacks than those who don’t shed tears.
Many parents are teaching their children not to cry as a sign of bravery. When ykaie cries, I console her and give her a shoulder to cry on instead of telling her to stop. But I also explain to her why I do that. It may take a lot of explanations and repetitions and my shoulders may turn a bit soggy because of too much tears but that’s okay. Crying is a natural reaction to stress.
Remember, STRESS can kill you, CRYING won’t.

I agree totally. Crying is my release. And you are right about the crying when I am mad. I have told people if they make me mad enough to cry, they better get out of my way! Lol! Thanks for sharing this.
You’re welcome Lisa!
Crying is a natural expression and should not be kept to one’s heart. Let true emotions flow every time.
Thanks Roch!
yes, totally agree with you in this matter, crying can’t be always a sign of weakness.
Cheers to that!
I have read about something like this else where din – those who really have pain in their heart from trauma, heartbreak or so – are those likely to have heart problems and diseases. Give in to your weakness and do cry when you need to – let it out, it’s good too!
I cry ALL THE TIME!
I do the same, when I’m really mad, I cry. haha And yes, it does help you release stress! I totally agree. I always feel better after crying 🙂
I agree crying is a good way to vent out fear, anxiety and frustrations and it’s in no way a sign of weakness.
Tears really is not a sign of weakness. They can be your strength and can give you positive energy for your future en-devour xx
