I don’t usually let my daughter borrow my “keys” when she wants to play with it. The primary reason being, it might get lost. Those keys in my key ring are the most important ones and those that I use on a daily basis like keys to the house, our room, cabinets and drawers.
I have explained that many times and since she understood, she never borrowed it anymore. Whenever she wants to go in and the door is locked, she asks me to open up the door for her. One is because she doesn’t know how to use keys in opening the door, second she doesn’t know which key is used to open it and third is because she wasn’t strong enough to turn the keys.
Today, I kinda realized that she’s a little grown-up and I want her to learn how to open up the front door for herself. So when she asked me to open up the door, I handed her the keys and told her to open it up herself. She was quite surprised but I saw her face light up as she took the keys from my hand.
She was really very proud of herself that she was able to open up the door and I know that she’s also proud that now I trust her enough to let her have that set of keys.
I was surprised when she “thanked” me for it. It melted my heart.
