Teaching Your Child To Pray

Prayer is the basic foundation of our relationship with God. It is how we communicate with with him. I grew up in a household that prays every morning and every nighty. My parents taught me to say the Apostle’s Creed, Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Glory Be.

With Ykaie, I started teaching her how to pray when she was around two years old. First, I told her all about praying that it is how you tell God what you want to tell him. Then I started showing her how mommy prays so she could imitate it. Teaching Ykaie at such a young age and watching how her do it is very fulfilling. I know that she will most likely grow up enjoying a fulfilling relationship with God and have a satisfying prayer life.

Kids need to understand that praying is a simple thing. It’s talking to God and thanking Him for the blessings that He showers upon us everyday. It’s about asking God for what we need and believing that He will do what’s best for us. It’s also about talking to Him about the people we care about and asking Him to help them. It made me really happy to hear Ykaie praying to God to keep her daddy in Dubai healthy and safe. Now she also pray about her Lolo and Lola who are also in Dubai.

I have yet to teach her to also include asking for forgiveness in her prayers… that I will do in the upcoming days.

  1. This is very important in order for them to be able to know God and to know that He existed. I always teach my kids to pray but sometimes it ended up to be a long conversation. lol

  2. I so agree. It is very important for us to become a role model to our children. Even though my children were still newborn we make sure they are part of our prayers. We are spiritually active and prayer is part of our lives. My 6 and 3 year old knows how to pray too and it’s heartwarming to hear them speaking to God through prayers from the bottom of their hearts.
