Here are five more easy and relaxing ways to alleviate pregnancy pains.
Morning Sickness
One of the major pains of pregnancy is the morning sickness. It’s often experienced most during the first trimester, but for some women can be felt during the majority of the pregnancy, and not just in the morning! One way to combat morning sickness is to eat some dry biscuits or cereal before getting out of bed in the morning. It’s important to try and keep some foods down, despite the fact that you feel too ill to eat, as your body and your growing baby need the sustenance.
Cramps
Anyone who has been pregnant will remember the painful cramps, especially those dreaded ones at night. These cramps occur because your body is working overtime to ‘cook’ the bun in the oven. One way to alleviate cramps is to do light stretching every day, especially of the legs and toes. Keeping everything moving will help it to be a little less crampy. If you’re lucky to have someone that can massage you, make sure you ask them to!
Swelling of Feet
A lot of women say that they went up a shoe size during their pregnancy, and this seems to be a regular occurrence. The swelling of feet (and hands) that often accompanies pregnancy can be an uncomfortable experience, but there are ways of reducing its impact. One really simple solution is to put your feet up whenever possible. Make sure that you are wearing comfortable shoes – leave the heels until after pregnancy. Take short walks as much as possible, as the activity will stimulate circulation and help reduce swelling.
Stay Regular
For many women, constipation and haemorrhoids can be a very unpleasant part of being pregnant, One way to alleviate these uncomfortable ailments is to take psyllium husk with your morning meal. It will ensure that everything is moving as it should be. Maintaining a healthy bowel movement during the pregnancy will assist greatly when it comes to the important time to start pushing.
Sleep
Sleep is very much your friend during pregnancy, so make sure you are getting enough of it. Clearly, it can sometimes be difficult to get to good sleep with a basketball attached to your tummy. Take the time and extra care to pad out your bed as best you can so your tummy is cradles and your back is supported. Many women say that a body pillow has been a godsend during pregnancy. Invest in a good pillow that can support the bump while you are sleeping, and sleep on your side as much as possible.
These are just a few of the many tips to alleviate pain during pregnancy. Talk to your doctor, midwife or doula for more advice. Of course, your own mum might have some good tips – she’s been there too!

Luckily my wife did not have it so hard that she could still do her daily activities, including driving herself. Some women have it more difficult and delicate, so they would need to rest and take a prolonged leave from work.
