A couple of weeks ago, Croissant, our biggest putete cat had an Aural Hematoma.
An Aural Hematoma is a blood-filled swelling in a cat’s ear flap. It’s also known as a “blood blister” or “cauliflower ear”. It looks really painful so we took him to the vet immediately. According to the vet, it’s causes are ear scratching, ear infection, or ear mites.
Croissant didn’t have ear mites but he frequently scratches his ears so that’s most probably the cause. The vet suggested surgery to remove it. He said that it’ll most probably come back if he would just drain it. Performing surgery and closing the air pocket in between would prevent it from coming back.
This was what Croissant looked like when we picked him up. The surgery plus medicines cost us ₱7,600. We took him back daily so he could take his meds and get his wounds cleaned.
After a week, his stitch were removed and as you can see, there was an open hole. I don’t know if that hole will close as time passes by. But I can tell he feels so much better now.
