Twinkle’s First Communion

Twinkle's First Communion

Well, it’s official – my baby girl is growing up way too fast! It feels like just yesterday I was holding her in my arms, and now here we are, celebrating her First Communion. Time, slow down, please!

Let me start by saying, this day was pure magic. Twinkle (yes, that’s her nickname, don’t judge me) has been counting down the days to this moment for weeks, and I couldn’t have been more excited for her. She’s been learning so much about faith, family, and community, and seeing her embrace all of it with such joy was honestly heartwarming.

We spent the morning getting ready, and by “getting ready,” I mean I was stressing over the dress, the shoes, the hair, and trying to make sure we didn’t run late. A lot has happened this week. She got sick, fever was on and off. She has fever one day, no fever the next and then fever again on the third day.

Anyway, Twinkle looked like a little angel in her white gala dress, her hair in a half pony-tail, and her excitement written all over her face. I may have gotten a little misty-eyed just seeing her in all her glory. The white dress, symbolizing purity, and the veil she wore, completed the look of a little girl blossoming into her faith. She looked every bit the angel she was imagining herself to be.

The ceremony was beautiful. Watching her walk up to the altar with her classmates, all dressed up in their Sunday best, was a moment I’ll never forget. There was something so special about seeing these young kids, full of innocence and faith, receive the sacrament. I kept thinking, “This is her journey. This is just the beginning.”

The church was filled with families, all there to witness their children take part in such an important sacrament. The First Communion ceremony is more than just an event; it’s a rite of passage that marks a deepening connection with faith. Watching Twinkle and her friends approach the altar, a little nervous but filled with excitement, was touching. It’s a moment that shows the purity of childhood faith – simple, genuine, and full of hope.

For Twinkle, this was more than just a religious ceremony; it was a time for reflection and growth. She’d been preparing for months, learning about the significance of the Eucharist, understanding what it meant to receive the body and blood of Christ for the first time. As the priest held up the bread, there was a quiet reverence in the air, and the children were all clearly moved by the moment.

Of course, the day wasn’t without its chaos. There were a few moments of “Mom, I’m nervous,” and a little bit of throwing up before the event started. She said she felt dizzy. But through all of that, the love in the air was so thick you could feel it.

All in all, Twinkle’s First Communion wasn’t just a special day for her; it was a milestone for me as a mom, too. Watching her take such a big step in her faith was a reminder of how much she’s grown, how much she’s learning, and how much she’s still going to teach me along the way.
