I grew up in a traditional catholic school. I went in one from Kinder, Elementary, and High School. It only changed when I graduated and went to college. To be honest, I didn’t know what course I wanted to take back then. It was a course that’s popular at that time versus the course that I wanted. I ended up taking the course that I wanted and graduated from it but it is not something that is applicable to what I do now nor is it applicable to what is relevant in today’s fast-paced world of business and information technology.
My daughter is also enrolled in a traditional school which was my Alma Mater. My Alma Mater is a great school and I believe that it gives her the foundation that she needs at this time in her life. It’s different for those who are graduating and going to college. They must choose a school and a course that will arm them in answering the demand of today’s industry.
That’s where iAcademy comes in.
iAcademy is a private college that offers very specific courses in Computing, Business, and Design that tailor-fits the students’ learning alongside the continuous changes companies undergo to innovate and set new standards to achieve market leadership.
It is located at the heart of Makati’s Central Business District where the country’s leading businesses are located placing the students in the real world environment where the industry professionals are.
I was fortunate be one of those invited to meet the President, Deans, and faculties last week and take a tour of the school. It also gave me an opportunity to get to know them a little more.
The professors and deans that teaches and make up iAcademy are practicing professionals meaning they get to impart more of their experiences in the field with their students versus an all-textbook based learning. They can teach not just the basics but also the ins and outs of the industry because they have knowledge about both theoretical and real-world experiences.
An example is Mr. Dane Romley, the Creative Director of the School of Animation of iAcademy. He is the character layout artist and designer of The Simpsons television show and movie. I was even Simpsonized while I was there! Take a look at the photo at the left… heehee.

- Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Arts and Design
- Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design & Technology
They have relatively small classrooms that can take up only up to thirty students at a time meaning the professors get to know their students much better.
One of the things that I love about iAcademy is that Bullying is not tolerated. They even partnered with the local law enforcement with regards to their Anti-Bullying campaigns and programs. Everyone at school is encouraged to be an individual and be themselves. This is evident when you see the students’ fashion statements and hair styles!
This is the library where a small music room is also located. This is where students can practice and play their music.
The second thing I love about iAcademy is that instead of the usual 2-month OJT, students get an 8-month internship as part of their curriculum providing them with a work experience they can use when they graduate from their course. They have a study tour partnership with Polimoda, Italy’s leading school of Fashion and Marketing and a transfer program with De Paul University in Chicago, USA.
They also partnered with top companies wherein the students can take their OJT and eventually land a job after they graduated.
I am not techie nor am I familiar with the newest gadgets but I am impressed with the high tech facilities and equipment that iAcademy has to offer. It was designated as the first IBM Software Center of Excellence in the ASEAN Region and also the first college to be a WACOM autorized training partner.
Their students are free to use all the school’s equipments for projects and additional learnings.
Did you know that iACADEMY was chosen by Solar Entertainment Corporation to be the official partner-school and workspace of the third season of Project Runway Philippines? I think that is so cool.

What I love most about iAcademy is the FAMILY environment. Since it’s just a small school, they know each students by name. They also have an open door policy and the deans and president welcome the students openly inside their office to talk about anything under the sun. Yes, they interact regularly with the students! One of the Deans even told us that parents can even call the school to ask if their children went to school that day… and they’ll look for the student to be able to tell the parents that they are there. This school is really the second home of the students.
When you take all of those factors into consideration – the rigorous training programs, the 8-month OJT, the high tech equipments and gadgets, the professors who can guide them through the basics plus the ins and outs of the industry, and a school that treats them as family — iAcademy is sure to produce globaly competitive professionals.

I’m very much interested in this school, I have 2 kids who are very much into arts and fashion.
I’m sure they’ll also be interested in this school.
The 8-month internship is the way to go, in my opinion. I think universities are starting to catch up…UAAP does the same. I’m looking forward to seeing my children decide what they want to pursue and if they’re going for traditional universities or go progressive all the way. 🙂 I’ve given a lot of thought to iAcademy because of their computer programming courses since my eldest seems to be going in that direction.

That’s what I thought too when we were on a tour.
Having has college instructors who were purely academic as well as those who were working professionals in the field they taught, I prefer the latter. I think their students get more enrichment.
