As early as two years old, I bought Ykaie a coin bank and gave some coins each day which she could drop in it. We watched as the number of coins rise and eventually filled the coin bank.
Instead of throwing old toys which she doesn’t like to play with anymore, I asked her to sell it in a garage sale. We gathered all the old toys and put a table outside our house with a sign that says “Garage Sale ni Ykaie“. The toys went as fast as a lighting and she made ₱80 half of which was spent to buy new toys..LOL!.. The other half went to her coinbank.
As a person, now a mommy, with entrepreneurial drive, I would like to instill to my daughter the value of money and the value of saving. I also like for her to have the same entrepreneurial drive as I have.
With the upcoming Junior Preneur Bazaar, you can also encourage your children to start early on being business oriented. Junior Preneur is a 1-day event where in you can teach your child to earn, save and share what they have.
You can get a booth there for ₱1,000 – ₱5,000 depending on the size and location and have a family selling activity. Or if you are not the selling type, you can just visit the event. It is happening on November 10, 2012 at Tiendesitas. Tickets will be sold at ₱100/each but if you sign up at www.facebook.com/juniorpreneur , there will be a 50% discount and you’ll pay only ₱50. With that, you can already watch the animal show — usually P250 at Zoomanity Parks.
Junior Preneur aims to raise the nation’s level of financial literacy through business-minded kids who can easily learn how to handle money the proper way despite a very young age.
