On the first week of this month, we did our annual Poinsettia buying. My mother has to have Poinsettias on our terrace during the Christmas season and we buy them every time at the Manila Seedling Bank.
Since I started my “Herb Garden” this year, I thought I should add some fruit-bearing and veggie bearing plants as well.

You know how much I love cooking and cooking with fresh herbs. But fresh herbs aren’t always available so I make sure I keep a stock of dry, bottled herbs in the kitchen.
I have resigned to using dry herbs most of the time because I don’t think herbs like me very much. Two years ago, I tried to start an herb garden but the plants died after a week. I knew right then that I didn’t have green thumbs.
I had this DOLE Garden Kit for sometime now which I didn’t dare touch. For some reason, I was thinking it will just go to waste because of my black thumbs.
Last Friday, when I wasn’t feeling well I decided to give this garden kit a go. I figured being busy will keep my mind of what I was feeling.
What’s in the Kit?
The seeds are: Basil, Arugula, Mint, Lemon Balm, Bunching Onions and Pepper
There should be one Quick Soil Mix (QSM) Pellet per Coir Pot. To start, you should put these in a waterproof container like a basin or a tray. Then add around ¼ cup of water to each pot. Once the water is absorbed, add another ¼ cup of water.

Yearly during the month of November, it has been a tradition for my mother to buy Poinsettias to decorate our home with. It lights up the house and makes it look more festive. It makes us feel that indeed, it’s nearly Christmas.
Poinsettias are the most popular flower during the holidays because of it’s red and green foliage.
So where do we buy our Poinsettias? Well, we buy pots of them at the Manila Seedling Bank Foundation.
It is located at Quezon Avenue Extention Corner E. DeLos Santos Avenue, EDSA Quezon City. They were initially just a company that is in charge with seedling production but grew into this large foundation with diversified operations dealing mainly with the greening of the environment.
A pot of Poinsettia costs around ₱200 – ₱300 depending on which seller you’ll buy from and how big the plant is.
Aside from Poinsettias, they also sell different kinds of plants, flowers, herbs, fertilizers, soils and pots –basically everything that you need in your garden.
This is where I bought the herbs that died in my hand..huhuhu.
I hope I gather enough courage to start an herb garden again..
